Yes! I am the Mean, Evil, Step Teacher.I jokingly gave myself this moniker one day in class and it stuck. Why you ask? Because it's true. I'm not mean and evil to my students, but to the obstacles I aim to help them conquer and vanquish. My students have no bottoms left by the end of the year because they have worked them off... and have done so happily. Nelson Mandela said that to be effective as a leader, you have to lead from behind. I truly believe this, especially as an educator. Give students the necessary foundational knowledge, ignite their imaginations and creativity, then get out of the way. You'll be surprised what they do, but most importantly, they will blow their own minds! A teacher's job is to get her students to accomplish more than they ever dreamed they could, and that is just what I intend to do.
My stint as a technology integration specialist is now complete, and for the 2015-2016 school year I'm heading back into the classroom to teach 2nd grade as well as to provide reading support to 3rd and 5th graders. I'm am very much looking forward to heading back into the classroom so let the fun begin! |
